I thought to share one of my family’s favorite Mexican restaurants in the DFW area. For us one place has always been Gonzalez. They have great food that makes you feel like you just had a home cooked meal. I think for me what seals the deal is their amazing tortillas de harina. As a child my grandmothers, both my Ama’s and Granny’s, tortillas both came out very similar to theirs so I think this is why I like them so much. It is something that reminds me of great childhood memories. The tortillas are so round and fluffy, believe me some of the best. I’d say theirs have to be second best with both my grandmothers in first place of course.
Huevos Rancheros & Barbacoa
As a child I remember going into the small restaurant on Bruton and you could always see the owner saying hi to all the customers. The restaurant has moved locations since that time to the next door lot which is a bigger location but you can still see some of the waiters from that time still serving.
For the food some my favorite menu items are the carne guisada plate and huevos rancheros on the breakfast menu. When I’m not as hungry their burrito section is awesome. Their prices are fairly reasonable. Depending on which full plate you get your meal does come with at least one tortilla and you can always ask for more for a small fee. They also have great lunch specials. If you are in the mood for Mexican food this is a must try. Great food!
